Ben’s sentence is 32 hours of community service at the town hospital. Serving his time, he starts to enjoy the work, and finds himself falling in love.
Bless the Beasts & Children: Arousing and well-intentioned, if repetitious, tale of 6 youthful black sheep boys, campers at a ranch, who try to free a hostage herd of buffalo planned for kill. The Barry De Vorzon and Perry Botkin music has gotten to be known as “Nadia’s Topic” and the Youthful and the Agitated topic spawned here. Cast includes Billy Mumy, Barry Robins, Miles Chapin, Ken Swofford, Jesse White, and Vanessa Brown. (109 minutes, 1972)
Live a Little, Love a Little: Elvis manages to land two well paying photographer’s jobs and work them both by jumping to and fro from office to office. Delightful, if normal, Presley fare. Cast includes Elvis Presley, Michele Carey, Don Porter, Rudy Vallee, Dick Sargent, Sterling Holloway, and Eddie Hodges. (90 minutes, 1968)
Strange Invaders: Caring spoof of ‘ 50s sci-fi films with a feel of ’80s New Wave, in reference to a Midwestern town overtaken by foreigners. Has a remarkable feel to it although agonizes from weak inscribing and lazy pacing. Here is an evocative score by John Addison. Cast includes Paul LeMat, Nancy Allen, Diana Scarwid, Michael Lerner, Louise Fletcher, and June Lockhart. (94 minutes, 1983)
Light It Up: Well-intentioned although preachy tirade in reference to a group of N.Y.C. scholars who encompass their high school after their top choice professor is unreasonably delayed and a patrol officer is inadvertently shot. He tries to handle a number of tough issues but outcomes are strained and melodramatic. Cast includes Guide Raymond, Woodland Whitaker, Marcello Robinson, Rosario Dawson, Robert Richard, Judd Nelson, Fredro Starr, Sara Gilbert, Glynn Turman, and Vanessa L. Williams (99 minutes, 1999)
Exit Wounds: Orin Boyd is a cop who doesn’t follow the rules. He has saved the Vice President of the US, but he didn’t follow orders, so he is sent to Detroit’s precinct 21, it’s worst area. With his new partner George, they set out to clean up the drug problems in the 21st. When they do, they find a lot of dirty cops are involved.
The Indian In The Cupboard: On his 9th birthday, Omni receive an old wooden Indian as one of his birthday gifts. He locks it into his cupboard, and the next morning, to his surprise, the small Indian figure has become alive. When his friend Patrick puts a plastic cowboy in the cupboard for the night, he also comes to life. Just where will this eventually lead?
